First Aid Instruction

The purpose of this instruction is to help managers, coaches and other participants know how to handle common injuries that may occur during Little League play. The document you are viewing is basic and not intended to be complete in the sense that you would expect in a certified 1ST aid course.

What to do if a player is hurt:

First and foremost is remaining calm! It is no help to anyone if the person in charge, isn’t in charge.
It is also very frightening to the injured player if he/she sees panic in the adult faces around him/her.
You may have to ask people to stand back if they are getting in the way of providing care to the player. This too can be done in a calm voice. Yelling at this time is rather inappropriate and doesn’t help anyone and can frighten the player and team members.
Your initial assessment of the injury is very basic. Most of the players will come running in from the field or you will be able to tell that you need to go out to them. Anyone who appears to be injured seriously probably is. Following your "gut feelings" is a good thing to do.
If player is unable to get up the coach or manager should go to them immediately and check for injury.

NOTE: Refer to decision tree.
